Our team of dedicated parent volunteers serve on CAF’s Board of Directors and provide expertise in a variety of areas, including fundraising, finance, and marketing.

Tim Hoffman
President
Tim and his wife Anne were both born and raised on the Peninsula, and have lived in Belmont for over 20 years. They have two children attending Carlmont High School and one at SDSU. Prior to joining CAF, Tim served on the board of the SchoolForce education foundation for over ten years.
His professional background includes positions as a professional economist with particular emphases on applied finance and economic & consumer research. Tim also has extensive product management & development experience in the financial services industry. Tim holds BA and MA Degrees in Economics from U.C. Santa Barbara.

Marian Wells
Secretary
Marian Wells is in her fourth year serving as Secretary on the CAF Board. Over the past 10 years, she has held multiple leadership roles on Cipriani Elementary’s PTA Board, including Parliamentarian, PTA Council Representative, Historian, and SchoolForce Chair. Marian has also served on the Ralston PTA Board as both Historian and Parliamentarian. She and her husband, Jay, have two students at Carlmont High School, a freshman and a junior.
Marian earned her degree in Education from Concordia University in Irvine, CA, and spent 13 years teaching 4th and 5th grade in both Irvine and San Mateo. Today, she brings that same passion for education to her work in clean beauty, helping individuals make informed, safe choices in their skincare and personal care routines.

Karen Melzer
VP Finance
Karen is new to the CAF Board this year. From preschool to high school, Karen has worked with kids in the classroom and in the community. She has served on several non-profit boards including Little Hands, PTA, YMSL and 4C’s of San Mateo County. Karen has a bachelor’s degree in business from Cal and an MBA from Stanford.
Professionally, Karen’s experience spans accounting, finance, human resources, consulting, and software. She has held executive leadership positions and mentored teams in several organizations in both full and part-time roles. She and her husband EJ started their own company years ago to help small businesses with technology and accounting. Their son is a junior at Carlmont. The family enjoys spending time outdoors hiking, skiing and mountain biking both locally and in Tahoe.

Isabelle Dumans
Co-VP, Parent & Community Fundraising
Isabelle is excited to join the CAF Board this year as co-VP of Parent & Community Fundraising. Isabelle has lived in San Carlos for 20 years and has a son who just graduated from Carlmont and a rising Junior still there. She is an instructor at Menlo College and sees firsthand the difference a quality education in high school makes for the students she teaches. She has volunteered at Tierra Linda and Carlmont, but this is her first board position!

Michelle Williams
Co-VP, Parent & Community Fundraising
Michelle Williams is excited to join the CAF Board as Co-VP of Parent & Community Fundraising. She has lived in San Carlos for 11 years and is the proud parent of a daughter attending Carlmont High School.
Michelle is the founder and CEO of a Silicon Valley startup that merges entertainment and education to inspire young audiences through animated action-adventure series grounded in real-world STEM ideas. Her passion for STEM education and working with young people began during her early career as an elementary school teacher and led her to earn a PhD in Education in Development in Mathematics and Science from the University of California, Berkeley. She later served as a tenured Associate Professor of Science Education at Michigan State University, where she received the National Science Foundation Early Career Award for her work developing innovative STEM learning technologies for K–12 students. Michelle also serves on the Board of Directors at the Hiller Aviation Museum and the Redwood City Child Development Program and is a member of the Advisory Committee for The Walt Disney Family Museum.

Sandra Sanvido
VP Business Outreach
Sandra is excited to join the CAF board as VP, Business Outreach. She has served on the SchoolForce board since 2017. Previously held roles include President; VP, Strategic Communications; and Fox Chair. Sandra is actively involved in the community as a member of YMSL, frequent Second Harvest volunteer, an avid school volunteer, former Fox PTA Board member, and former leader in Cub Scouts. Sandra and her husband, Marco, have two sons at Carlmont. Professionally, Sandra is an independent Product Marketing Consultant. She has an MBA from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University.

Linda Sonne-Harrison
VP Marketing
Linda is excited to join the CAF board as VP, Marketing. She has two sons attending Carlmont High School and has lived in Belmont for 11 years. She has served in a number of PTA and volunteer roles in Belmont public schools, including Ralston Music Boosters Chair from 2020-2022. Linda operates her own consulting firm and brings an extensive track record in B2B software product marketing with small and large companies throughout the world. Linda holds a BA from Stanford University and an MBA in Marketing from University of California, Los Angeles.

Helen McCormick
VP, Operations
Helen is new to CAF this year and is excited to help out with the Operations. A resident of Redwood Shores for almost 20 years, she has supported Redwood Shores Elementary PTA (Treasurer, auditor), Footsteps Childcare (Secretary), Ralston Middle School (Treasurer) Cub Scout Pack 61 (Treasurer), among other things. Her husband John has supported and coached local softball, baseball and flag football teams. The McCormick kids attend Ralston Middle School (8th) and Carlmont High School (10th).

Peter Shen
Endowment Chair
Peter is excited to join the CAF Board this year as Endowment Chair. Peter and his fiancé live in Belmont and have three children with one (class of 2028) at Carlmont High School.
Peter is currently an Executive Director at Gilead Sciences. Over the last fifteen years, he has been managing Gilead’s and its Foundation’s investments. He has a Master of Engineering in Industrial Engineering and Bachelor of Sciences in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University.
