We are excited to announce that Oracle has awarded Carlmont Academic Foundation (CAF) with a $20,000 grant for fiscal year 2024. Since 2010, grants from Oracle have provided support for rigorous STEAM teaching and learning by equipping classrooms with cutting-edge equipment and instructional resources designed to promote critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication. This year’s grant will support a range of classes including the Biology, Chemistry, Human Biology, Physics, and AP Environmental Science courses.
The grant from Oracle will provide for classroom resources including:
- Vernier Labquest data collection instruments, conductivity probes, sensors, and supporting equipment for 500 Chemistry students to conduct hands-on lab work; this equipment will also help AP Environmental Science students test water quality throughout the year.
- Equipment and supplies to support hands-on anatomy exploration labs in Human Biology, plus a knee joint simulation model that will allow students to take an in-depth look at ACL tears.
- Gel electrophoresis units to introduce Biology and Biotechnology students to gel electrophoresis.
- PCR machines for Biotechnology courses will allow students to perform real-world DNA analysis, such as testing genetically modified foods.
- Fitted tracks for the PASCO Smart Carts which allow students to perform a wider range of experiments involving acceleration, forces, and momentum.
